Lonar Lake:

Lonar Lake is situated in Buldhana District. A place famous for it's strange natural phenomenon. A great lake created due to the fall of a meteor from the sky. it is the third biggest lake of this kind in the world.
 

The first in Ghana, second in Canada and third Lonar in India, and fourth in US. Until now, only these four meteoric lakes are found in the world. It is really amazing to watch an oasis in the center of this meteoric crater. The diameter of this crater is 1800 metres and it is 170 metres deep. Another amazing phenomenon is the continuous flow of water through a 'Gomukh'. It is also an ancient religious place with countless legends about it. Relics of many temples of 'Pauranic' period are still found here. Many birds specialy peafouwls & peacocks and some Migrant birds are found in & around the crater.
It is believed that it was formed 50,000 years ago by the impact of a huge meteor that descended on earth. The depression is roughly 7 km in circumstance and 1.8 km in diameter. It is the largest and oldest meteoric crater in the world.
