Nashik:

Nashik is situated in Nashik District. A ancient sacred place. An important pilgrim centre on the river Godavari, Associated with many events & incidents in the lives of Rama, Sita & Laxman.

According to one of the Ramayan legends Laxman cut the nose (Nasika) of Surpankha here, since then this place came to be known as Nashik. KalaRam is the main deity of this kshetra.
Ramkund in Godavari is considered immensly sacred. Mortal remains (Asthi) immersed in this kunda are immediately absorbed in the water. The Kumbha Mela is held here once in twelve years during Simhasta Parvani, when dip in this sacred Ramkund is considered very pious.
